This is the third property we have completed for these clients in the last 12 years and we were delighted to be given a free rein for the interior design of the whole house, However, for us, that level of trust only increased the pressure to exceed oury clients expectations yet again.
Mr & Mrs G wanted a principal suite consisting of the bedroom, his and her ensuites, his and her dressing rooms and a lounge.
This was a new build project, so we were able to influence the layout of the whole suite. The client did not want the fireplace in the hall as proposed by the architect, so we extended the two ensuites to incorporate the flue from the ground floor fireplace. This allowed us to place the two vanity units opposite each other and introduce a sliding partition. This created the unique feature of the rooms being closed off/opened up as desired.
We selected the Hafro Bolla 160Q bath as it has a built in step and partially recessed it in the floor screed so as to set it at seat height from the finished floor. The curved sides and legs to the Antonio Lupi Il Bagno vanity units give a softer feel, but with a modern handleless design. The Samuel Heath Style Moderne brassware is a fusion between modern and classic, traditional brought up to date and the Polished Nickel finish also softens the look. We wanted to differentiate the two ensuites and achieved this by adding the more masculine AXOR Starck Shower Heaven built in shower to his shower and the more feminine AXOR Lamp Shower to hers.
For the floor we opted for Porcelain Alliance Stratus Grey 60x120cm tiles. We selected Dekton Galema stone for the walls behind the WCs and around the bath and specified the remaining bespoke wall panelling with traditional beaded recessed panels, dado rail & skirting boards, finished to match the Dekton Galema stone. This gives the illusion of wooden panelling behind the WC and around the bath. We chose Cambria Brittanica stone for the shower walls, vanity unit tops & window cills and wallpaper to incorporated shades of all the various stone colours. The Wall & Décor wallpaper we specified originally depicted birds within the pattern, but Mrs G did not like the birds, so we commissioned the wallpaper to exclude the birds.
We incorporated built-in bench seats within each shower, to ensure longevity within the design as my clients grow older. Introducing wall panelling and wallpaper makes the ensuites feel more homely, not like a conventional bathroom. The neutral pallet and mix of modern classic design ensure longevity and thus value for money.
