Open-plan interiors make internal spaces feel more generous and allow flexibility, but well considered planning is paramount in order to create the desired amount of separation, light penetration and an ergonomic flow. Room dividers are a great way to zone spaces, from free standing shelf units to floor to ceiling storage systems and sliding glass screens. Here I highlight some of my favourite solutions.
MOLTENI & C HECTOR
The Hector modular bookcase is designed to achieve light and airy compositions, of any length and height. Hector can be placed along the wall or as an island room divider. The various combinations of possible finishes give rise to very different aesthetics – a modern hi-tech bookcase, where metal and glass are the distinguishing features, or a traditional bookcase where the warmth of the wood prevails.

RIMADESIO SOHO
Reminiscent of Japanese rice paper screens, Soho has the ability to divide and at the same time connect interior spaces. The aluminium structure is available anodised in an extensive choice of colours or veneered in walnut. Choose from clear, tinted, reflective or opaque glass or opt for a metal mesh sandwiched between two glass panels for added glamour and mystery.
POLTRONA FRAU LLOYD
Lloyd is full of intrigue. Thin vertical wooden rods form light grilles that can be moved as desired to create varying open and closed spaces, that offer glimpses of the contents, without fully revealing them. Wood and saddle leather are expertly combined with the most advanced technology to fashion striking, original pieces of furniture.
PORADA DOMINO
Domino is a versatile system that utilises a single metal column to support either glass boxes or wooden shelves. The adjustable height columns are designed to be fixed from the floor to the ceiling and a wall mounted version is also available.
RIMADESIO SPAZIO
Spazio is a bespoke partition system, which can include hinged or sliding doors in a range of styles. The versatile system is formed in aluminium and glass and offers linear, corner and terminal solutions for both domestic and commercial environments.

A room divider can create privacy, intrigue or even a dedicated home office area.
